The Temporary Skill Shortage (Subclass 482) Visa is available under three different streams:

1) Short-Term Stream
2) Medium-Term Stream
3) Labour Agreement Stream

Short-Term Stream: Applicants must be nominated for an occupation listed on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). Eligibility generally requires a minimum of two years of relevant employment experience, together with a suitable skills assessment where applicable.

Medium-Term Stream: This stream is available for occupations included on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). Successful applicants may receive a visa for up to four years and could become eligible for permanent residency if they satisfy the relevant criteria. As with the Short-Term Stream, applicants typically need at least two years of relevant work experience and a skills assessment where required.

Both visa streams are designed to assist Australian employers in filling skill shortages by sponsoring qualified overseas professionals when appropriately skilled local workers are not available.

The Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) Visa provides an opportunity for skilled employees nominated by an Australian employer to obtain permanent residency. Both the sponsoring employer and the applicant must satisfy the applicable eligibility requirements, including occupation eligibility, employer sponsorship obligations, relevant work experience, skills assessment requirements where applicable, and other legislative criteria. The nominated position must be genuine and generally offered on an ongoing basis.
